Bayern Munich reject Chelsea bid for Ribery


Bayern Munich club chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Chelsea once had a £56million offer for Franck Ribery rejected.

The former Bayern winger and current club chairman has in recent years revealed moves from Premier League clubs for a hist of Bayern Munich stars have been rejected.


Back in 2009, Chelsea were linked with the winger during Carlo Ancelotti's time at the club but the move for the 33-year-old fell through.

Speaking to SportBild, the club chief said: “The offer we had for Franck Ribery in 2008 was almost unbelievable.

“The decision not to sell Franck Ribery nevertheless was a milestone in the development of FC Bayern. That was the moment when FC Bayern got to be a ‘buying club’.”



Ribery joined in 2007 from Marseille and is still at the German outfit. He currently plays under Carlo Ancelotti, the same man who tried to sign him for Chelsea in 2009.

Ribery revealed that himself last year before the Italian joined Bayern, saying: “Ancelotti already wanted to sign me in 2009 when he was with Chelsea.

"That means he likes me as a player and that is obviously great."
