MIDDLESBROUGH defender Ben Gibson has received his first England
call-up after the centre-back was brought in to replace the injured
Chris Smalling.
It remains to be seen how Gareth Southgate will line-up his side for
Sunday's clash with Lithuania having used three centre-backs in Germany
on Wednesday, although with Gary Cahill suspended there is a lack of
experience in defence.
Not that it should matter too much at Wembley against limited
opponents as England look to maintain their strong start to World Cup
qualification which has seen them collect ten points from the opening
four matches.
Betway are 8-13 that England will go through the qualification
process unbeaten, while Coral have opened a market on the next permanent
Three Lions captain.
It has been reported that Southgate won’t go down that route but at
some stage – maybe even as late as the World Cup finals – England will
possibly have to name a skipper with injured forward Harry Kane the
10-11 favourite from Liverpool’s 3-1 poke Adam Lallana.
Kane’s Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli is a 10-1 shot but he received
bad news after Uefa confirmed he will face a three-match European club
ban for next season following his red card against Gent in the Europa
League at Wembley last month
