Man United finished the Middlesbrough match with a crazy formation

Middlesbrough 1 – Manchester United 3

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side completed a seriously busy period before the international break with a 3-1 win at Middlesbrough.
Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard scored either side of half time. Rudy Gestede pulled a goal back but on 93 minutes, Antonio Valencia capitalised on a Victor Valdes mistake to complete the win.
Manchester United started the game playing three central defenders – Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly.
With Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young as wing backs.
There is nothing per se defensive about this type of side, with both Chelsea and Spurs scoring hatfuls of goals with wing backs this season.

7-2-1

Yet, as the game progressed, Jose Mourinho got more and more defensive.
With 21 minutes to go Marcos Rojo came on for Juan Mata. Anthony Martial’s introduction was a bit more attacking, for Jesse Lingard.
And, on 94, with the score 3-1 and Jose Mourinho already in the tunnel, on came Matteo Darmian for Marcus Rashford.
As a result, United ended the game with a hilarious formation of 7-2-1. See the graphic below.
To say Jose Mourinho parked the bus would be some sort of understatement!
