The Catalan club are already looking towards next
season and have earmarked two players who they believe can improve their
first team in 2017-18
Coach Luis Enrique will depart at the end of the current campaign and although the Catalan club have not yet decided upon a successor, the Blaugrana have already identified those two players as summer transfer targets.
Barca have a long-standing interest in both and the club has been in contact with Verratti's agent, Donato Di Campli, to ask about the PSG midfielder, so impressive in the French side's 4-0 win over Luis Enrique's men last month.
Verratti pledged his future to PSG after that match, but Unai Emery's side lost the return 6-1 to crash out of the Champions League and the Italian international was upset at newspaper reports claiming he had partied ahead of the team's European exit.
Nevertheless, PSG do not need the money and Barca are by no means the only to enquire about Verratti, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Inter and Juventus also tracking the former Pescara midfielder. And according to Catalan paper El Mundo Deportivo, Barca have identified their former player Thiago Alcantara as an alternative to the Italian.
Verratti is the Catalans' main midfield target, however, and the club are also hoping to seal the signing of their former youth player Bellerin from Arsenal this summer.
Coach Arsene Wenger's future is very much in doubt and Barca are aware that negotiations at this stage would be difficult, but are watching closely to see what will happen at the north London club in the coming weeks.
If Bellerin is unavailable or too expensive, Barca will consider signing Valencia's Joao Cancelo, while the Catalans are also keeping tabs on Bayern's Joshua Kimmich, who said recently that he could leave the Allianz Arena if he is not given more opportunitues by coach Carlo Ancelotti. Kimmich also posted a picture of Barca on Instagram recently with the message "nothing is impossible" after the Catalans' 6-1 comeback win over PSG.
Barca have also a deal agreed for Colombia defender Yerry Mina and will look to further strengthen their back line this summer, but Verratti and Bellerin will be the club's top targets and they will now wait to see whether PSG and Arsenal are prepared to negotiate for those two players.
