Argentina to sack manager with World Cup hopes in tatters

Argentina are poised to sack head coach Edgardo Bauza with their hopes of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia in tatters, reports ESPN.

Bauza, 59, was only made Argentina head coach in August 2016 but has overseen a disastrous period in charge of one of the best squads in international future and will now be relieved of his duties.

Argentina are currently fifth in their qualification group and 11 points adrift of leaders Brazil, who became the first team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup during last week’s international break. However, the 2014 World Cup finalists will now have to navigate through three of their remaining four matches without talisman Lionel Messi after he was controversially hit with a four-game ban following a foul-mouthed rant at an official in their 1-0 win over Chile last month.
