Chelsea confirm John Terry will leave at the end of the season
On Easter Monday, Chelsea confirmed the news that everybody knew: John Terry will leave the club at the end of the season.
After making his debut in 1998, Terry played 713 times for Chelsea, scoring 66 goals.
Terry is the club’s third highest all-time appearance-maker and captained Chelsea a record 578 times.
Mr Chelsea departs
It is almost an understatement to call John Terry “Mr Chelsea”, such has been his impact at the club.
His period of captaining the first team coincided with Chelsea enjoying their most successful period as a football club and his presence will surely be missed.
What next for John Terry?
As opposed to last season, when John Terry’s contract renewal dominated the final weeks of Chelsea’s campaign, this time the Blues supporters will surely give “JT” a great farewell.
John Terry reacted to the joint announcement from Chelsea with a simple message on Instagram, whilst he has also been posting regular videos on Instagram Stories.
Today they have predominantly included videos of John Terry playing golf.
Terry off to West Brom?
At 36, it appears John Terry will continue playing and the smart money is now on the former England centre back to be appearing in the Premier League next season.
MLS clubs have already ruled out signing Terry and it would be a big surprise if the Chinese Super League are interested in a defender to splash the cash on.
On Monday, after John Terry’s Chelsea announcement, BBC reporter Jacqui Oatley has confirmed that West Brom are the favourites.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis certainly likes ageing centre backs, who are good in the air and can score from set pieces…
