Real Madrid, Barcelona secure narrow 3 - 2 wins

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona recorded 3 - 2 victories in their La Liga games ahead of the El Clasico which will be held next weekend.

Lionel Messi scored his 497th and 498th goals for Barcelona to help Barcelona to a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad while Isco 's double also helped Madrid to victory.

Barca are within three points of the top in La Liga, though leaders Real Madrid still have a game in hand.

Messi opened the scoring against Real Sociedad with a long-range effort and doubled Barca's lead with a rebound after Luis Suarez's shot was saved.

Samuel Umtiti's own goal almost set the stage for a come back but Barca extended their lead when Messi played in Paco Alcacer to restore the two-goal advantage.

Long serving player Xabi Prieto reduced the deficit for Sociedad just before the break and that was how the game remained.

La Liga leaders Real Madrid needed a late goal from Isco at relegation battlers Sporting Gijon to secure a 3 - 2 win.

Croatian forward Duje Cop volleyed the hosts into the lead on 14 minutes, but Real hit back quickly when midfielder Isco smashed the ball into the top corner.

Mikel Vesga's looping header put Sporting, who started the day five points adrift of safety, back in front at the beginning of the second half.

Alvaro Morata nodded in at the back post to put Zinedane Zidanes men level. Isco scored with few minutes left to give Madrid the win.

He drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the penalty area as Real stayed at the top of the table ahead of El Clasico next weekend.
