Mourinho wants contract extension for unpopular Manchester United figure

Jose Mourinho will push for Manchester United to hand unpopular midfielder Marouane Fellaini a new contract extension, reports ESPN.

Fellaini
’s existing deal is due to expire in 2019 but the United midfielder has developed into a trusted player under Mourinho, who jumped to his defence when the Belgian gave away a costly penalty to his old club Everton back in December.

The 29-year-old has often been made a scapegoat for United’s problems since joining from Everton in 2014 but it didn’t appear likely he would see out the remainder of his contract let alone be handed an extension retaining his services.

However, this is exactly what Mourinho will reportedly push for when he outlines his plans for the summer to the United board at the end of the season.

In the last five Premier League campaigns only Christian Benteke (251) has conceded more fouls than Fellaini (246).
