Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are becoming as well-known in the
Spanish-speaking world for their relationship off the pitch as they are
for their relationship on it. The two Barcelona stars live close to each
other in Castelldefels and their families spend a lot of time hanging
out together.
In a relaxed interview with Uruguay's Canal 10,
filmed a while ago but only broadcast now, the two are even seen
bickering like an old couple while discussing who's better at what
sports.
"We play basketball," Messi revealed. "In the dressing
room we have a hoop and we take shots. I'm not bad, but [Suarez] is
awful!"
Suarez doesn't deny that, but bites backs, "I hammer him when it comes to pingpong!
"We played three games and I won. And you know what the worst thing is? That since then he's not played me again."
One thing they can both agree on is that Suarez isn't the best at Padel.
"He's improved a lot," Messi said of his strike partner in a more complimentary tone.
"I've
changed partners four times. ... I'm asking myself if maybe it's me!"
Suarez said in reference to always being on the losing side.
Messi
also couldn't resist a dig at Suarez when asked what his favourite food
is in a "How well do you know your partner?" style question and answer.
"All of it!" he said about the friend he calls Gordo, or fatty, before adding that his favourite food personally is anything with dulce de leche in it.
Giggling
like children at times, the presenter even gets them to reveal their
socks. Messi's feature a moon design, while Suarez's have Donald Duck on
them, which brings even more laughter.
In keeping with the tone of the interview, Suarez even attempts karaoke, singing "La Mano de Dios," or "The Hand of God," a song that is dedicated to Argentina legend Diego Maradona.
Like his basketball skills, though, he's not the best. He's definitely best off sticking to football.
